On October 14th, 2011 then President and CEO of the Japanese Corporation, Olympus – Michael Woodford – was unceremoniously
dismissed following a series of letters he had written questioning his board colleagues on inexplicable payments amounting to over US$1.7 billion. Fearful for his life he fled Japan that day… the next day, his story was heard around the world when he landed on the front page of the Financial Times. Since then, there have been multiple arrests and subsequent indictments in Japan of three of his former board colleagues and several others who had facilitated the massive fraud, with all the remaining directors having to resign.
